British Red Cross

The British Red Cross helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. We are part of a global voluntary network of volunteers and staff, responding to natural disasters, conflicts and individual emergencies.

We enable vulnerable people to prepare for and respond to emergencies in their own communities, and when the crisis is over, we help people recover and move on with their lives.  We work both in the UK and Internationally.

Players of People’s Postcode Lottery have supported our work in sub Saharan Africa since 2013, as well as our work with young refugees in the UK in 2017, through the Dream Fund award. Funding from players has enabled communities in Zimbabwe to enhance their resilience to cyclical disasters by growing their own food and rearing livestock as well as building sustainable health and hygiene infrastructure. Players have also helped with cash distribution to families affected in Cameroon by the on-going crisis in the Lake Chad basin as well built the capacity of Sierra Leoneans to respond to crisis such as the recent mudslide in the country. The collective support from players has helped thousands of people; families and communities in Africa as well as enabled hundreds of young people integrate in their communities in the UK.

In 2018, players will continue to support community development in Zimbabwe while also helping install solar pumps in Kenya for regular water supply in some of the most vulnerable areas. Players will also directly support our emergency responses in Africa and globally.
